Intra-District Women Leadership Meeting
In an effort to capacitate women with advocacy skills, EWF conducted an intra-district women leadership meeting in Bulawayo with Ward Advocacy Committee members from ward 10, 11, 12 and 14 of Tsholotsho District. The meeting focused on how women can address their social service delivery issues and how they can amplify their voices in demanding accountable governance from their local authority.
Participants managed to identify social service delivery issues which affects their daily lives. Women from ward 10 and 11 identified inaccessibility of safe and portable water while women from ward 12 and 14 identified inaccessibility of health services as their greatest challenges in social service delivery.
Despite these social service delivery challenges, the ward advocacy teams indicated that as community members they are able to mobilize their limited resources and coordinate themselves to improve the state of social services in their communities. However, what seems to be the obstacle is sustaining these efforts due to limited community support. At the end of the meeting, the participants managed to develop strategies on how they can effectively address these social service delivery issues. One of the strategies mentioned was engaging with the duty bearers and demanding accountability from them.
